California Romance at Hummingbird Nest Ranch
It’s been on my bucket list to photograph a wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch, so naturally I was overjoyed when Casey + Mikey reached out. Originally from opposite ends of the country, their story began at Penn State where they both went to college. Mikey did what any man would do…he slid into Casey’s DM’s with the unforgettable line “One day we’re going to tell our kids that we met on Instagram”. I think he’s probably just as shocked as all of us at how well that pickup line turned out! After a period of long distance, they finally landed together in Santa Monica where Mikey pursued a career as a professional soccer player.
Casey + Mikey absolutely love the outdoors, and one of their favorite activities to do together is hiking. Their hearts lead them to this beautiful outdoor venue in the hills of Simi Valley just outside of Los Angeles. This was a destination wedding for their family members, who are mostly on the East Coast or in Northern California. I knew that they would be reuniting with many faces they haven’t seen in a long while. My goal was to tell a story through my imagery of how special these moments were.
An emotional and private first look started the day off with happy tears and giddy romance. Friends and family members started to arrive for their photos with the bride and groom, my personal favorite were their sweet nieces and nephew. I could tell instantly how much these little ones meant to Casey and Mikey, so I spent a lot of time capturing the little moments with the kiddos.
The rest of their guests flooded in shortly for what would be an incredibly heartfelt ceremony. Personal vows were exchanged, with a beautiful tribute to Mikey’s mother who is no longer with us. There wasn’t a dry eye in the audience as their officiant told the detailed story of Casey + Mikey’s love for each other.
A stunning reception space was waiting for the guests after their ceremony, beautifully created by the Ruffle Effect team. Natural greenery, crisp white + pink florals , and romantic touches were perfect accents to this extraordinary venue. The Spanish architecture and stunning canyon setting make Hummingbird Nest Ranch one of the most unique wedding spaces near Los Angeles. Fun fact, I actually grew up just down the road and would hike through the property with my dad when I was younger! It’s been a dream of mine to finally photograph a wedding here, and I feel so blessed that Casey + Mikey chose me to document this day for them.
